A Letter to Our Students

kindnesswaveApril 21, 2020

Dear Mann Student,

Well, this has certainly been a most unusual time of our school year hasn’t it? In case you have not heard, yesterday Governor Beshear announced that students will not be able to return to the school building for the remainder of the school year. Even though this may make us sad, we have to trust that he, along with all the health experts, are making a difficult a decision that will help keep us all safe.

I am sure you have lots of questions. You may have even left some items in your classroom that you want to make sure that you get out of your desk or cubby. No need to worry about any of that stuff because we are going to make a plan for that along with a whole host of other items.  Right now we just need to do our best to stay positive and make sure you finish the year strong virtually!! I know you will do a great job with your school work for the next 4 weeks.

You can be assured that we, all the staff at Mann, are working on a plan to see just what we can do to make this end of the school year just as special as if you were at school!!! We already have a couple of really good ideas up our sleeves and we are planning some more. Of course it is going to be FUN!!!

I had no idea when you all left school on Thursday, March 12th, that we would get back together. I thought about all the hugs I am missing and of course your jokes!! Now I could be super sad about all of that and all of the traditional things we do at the end of the school year, but you know what???? I am not sad because we get to make history. Really – we get to do something that kids in the future will likely never get to do. Instead of us doing the same traditional types of things we do every school year, we get to make new traditions.

How cool will this be? This is year number fourteen for Mann Elementary and we get to start some brand new traditions!!! I love that. You may even have some ideas of what we can do virtually to end the school year. If you come up with some ideas just have your parents/guardians email them to me. Here is my email address:

So boys and girls, let me encourage you not to be sad or complaining about everything you are missing at the end of the year. Instead let’s think about the positives and all of the new traditions we can create for this unique time in history. I know you can do it. I am super duper proud of you all and I love you very much. Let’s finish this school year in Mannland fashion—FANTASTIC AND FUN!!!
