Welcome to Thornwilde Elementary!

If you are looking for a school that does more for your child than you ever thought possible, Thornwilde Elementary is the school for you! There are many things that make Thornwilde Elementary unique!

Our students talk about their learning! The students at Thornwilde are engaged and involved in every way every day!   It is not uncommon to walk into a classroom and hear students discussing their learning together and saying things such as “I would like to add to what he said, or I would like to piggyback on what she said”.

Our students communicate constantly about their learning!  They talk, they listen and they write!  All students have learning logs in every subject area so that they can communicate their learning throughout each and every day.  They are also immersed in writing workshop daily with many opportunities to write, revise and publish.

Our students are engaged!  We know it’s important to engage students in their learning so you will see students making projects, doing experiments, reading to one another, sharing their writing, working in small groups, and creating pamphlets and power points during their school day!

Our students love to read!  Our students read hundreds of books.  They read entire series of books, and share their books with others and on the announcements so others will want to read them too!  They are engaged in guided reading activities, reading to self and reading to others every day!

Our students are involved in the arts!  They have opportunities to go to art, music, physical education, drama, world language and technology, library, and STEAM Lab.  Our students have the unique opportunity to attend their arts and humanities classes for five days in a row!  They also have opportunities to experience the arts in their classrooms and after school during extra-curricular activities.

Our students are readers, mathematicians, scientists, and authors!  Our students are involved in hands-on math activities, learn from science experiments and experience real-life writing.  During class, they delve deeply in to the curriculum and are given opportunities to communicate, collaborate, think critically, and create.

Our students are involved before and after school!  Our students have opportunities to participate in many extra-curricular activities throughout the year such as Chorus, Drama Club, Art Club, Odyssey of the Mind, Lego League, Academic Team, Mozart Strings, Beethoven Strings, Basketball, Cheerleading, Rockin’ Readers, Math Maniacs, Cats in the Clubhouse, Girls on the Run, Wildcat Running Club, and STLP.

Our staff is amazing!  Each and every staff member is passionate about the students of Thornwilde and totally dedicated to their success.  The teachers work endlessly to plan lessons, differentiate instruction, create learning centers, and make the curriculum come alive for our students. The support staff works with the students, maintains a spotless environment, and dedicates many hours to providing a positive, safe, healthy and efficient place for our students to learn.

Our students care about their learning!  At Thornwilde, we believe that our students should be accountable for their learning.  Our students care about their learning.  They set goals, work toward these goals, and celebrate their successes with the staff and one another.

Our parents and community are top-notch!  We have numerous parent volunteers, businesses, and community members that work with us each day to ensure that our students have the best education in the state.  Hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars are donated each year to help us accomplish our goals!

Do you want your child to have the experience of their lifetime and be life, college and career ready?  Thornwilde Elementary is the place where this will happen.   Parents, staff, students and the community work together to ensure a world- class education for every child.  Come and experience our positive, exciting, challenging, creative and energizing place of learning!  Come and experience CATS Pride!

End of the Year

It’s Official...   end of the year

We are moving into the last part of our school year, and our Wildcats have many exciting things coming up!  Below are some important dates that we know families have been eagerly awaiting:

The LAST DAY for students will be Thursday, May 25.  This could still change to one day prior depending on a pending emergency day for the day with severe winds.

STATE TESTING is scheduled to occur May 9-15. It is extremely important that your child be in school each day for testing.  It’s their time to shine!

KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES: Please note that both AM and PM Kindergarten students will attend Field Day and Kindergarten Promotion in the AM.   All PM kindergarten students will attend during the morning session from 8:55am—12:03pm. Parents of afternoon kindergarten students will need to make arrangements for their own transportation to and from school on these two days.  YMCA Extended Kindergarten Families: Be sure to speak with Ms. Mary about your child and the services available on these two days.

Check the April Wildcat for more important dates and events.

Yearbook Orders

yearbook orders

Yearbook ordering is currently OPEN! We highly recommend ordering your yearbook online! It’s fast, easy and simple --- for all involved! (Paper Order forms will be made available in early May. If choosing this method – all checks/money orders are made payable to Lifetouch).

We cannot stress enough that if you are interested in a Yearbook to go ahead and place your order NOW! We do not order a surplus of yearbooks. YOU MUST ORDER YOUR YEARBOOK IN ADVANCE!  This is a memorable keepsake and a great way to support TES.

Yearbooks can be purchased from the Lifetouch Yearbook link (ybpay.lifetouch.com) found on either the TES or PTA website. Yearbook orders will be accepted until the last day of school.

Our school’s 2016-2017 Yearbook ID code is 11648517.

The basic yearbook is $20, but there are a number of add-on options that are available for purchase.
